Wally West

1 min read

The release of the Flash movie opened a wound for me. A mental wound.

Wally West was the Flash from 1986 to 2008. 25 years, 247 issues of his own comic and numerous appearances in the Justice League. He was one of the only successful instances of the sidekick inheriting the mentor's legacy.

In comparison, Barry Allen was the Flash for 30 years and 195 issues of his own comic. Barry died a hero, destroying the Anti-Monitor's cannon and alerting various heroes to the impending crisis.

All of that undone by the truly terrible Flashpoint comic where the hero destroys the universe by trying to change history and save his mother. Essentially doing the same thing, on a smaller scale, that the Anti-Monitor was attempting to do.

Wally was forgotten and ignored. Got retconned into a different character. Lost his family. Accidentally killed a bunch of people.

"The Menagerie" always struck me as a weird sort of episode. Why would Spock go to such extremes to assist a former commander. When I saw it the first time I was aware "The Menagerie" was a creative use of the pilot, "The Cage."

Even then I was aware of shows using clip episodes to pad out a season. So this creative use of otherwise unusable footage was a nice change.

With all that said, the best part of Strange New Worlds is the way it is filling in the background of Pike.

Pike in "The Menagerie" was barely a character. Locked in a wheelchair. In "The Cage" playing a character that was undefined. That's what made it hard to accept on face value that Spock would go to such lengths.

Further, episode two mentioned things like the "Eugenic Wars" and with a crew member named "La'an Noonien-Singh" makes me hopeful that more hidden parts will be fleshed out.

Seeing a re-cast Khan Noonien-Singh seems unlikely as "Space Seed" established that Khan was unknown to the Enterprise... but it seems something is being lined up.

I was listening to Rocky Horror Picture Show last night and noticed something about the lyrics.

The chorus of "Science Fiction - Double Feature" includes this line: See androids fighting (ooh-ooh-ooh) Brad and Janet

In the midst of references to various 50s science fiction movies.

As far as I know, there isn't another science fiction movie with main characters named Brad and Janet... So this reference must be to RHPS... but there are no androids in the movie?

The reprise of this song includes this line:

Darkness has conquered Brad and Janet

First thought, "Double Feature" could just be a homage to the style of movie that were being referenced. Or it could be that RHPS itself is two movies. It starts off as a Frankenstein riff with Frank N. Furter bringing life to Rocky. Then it changes into a sort of Haunted House movie with a deranged, possibly psychotic, host.

Riff-Raff and Magenta go from being lackey and groupie to almost entirely different characters, just like a murder mystery. Most of the other characters disappear and a new character shows up, Dr. Everett V. Scott.

The various party goers, except for Columbia, disappear. Maybe they were the androids the song refers to? Prior creations of Frank?

The line in the reprise seems to make it plain that Frank and / or Riff and Magenta were evil. Now Brad and Janet are just as evil?

Or I could just be reading too much into lyrics that were written because they rhyme.

Heaven?

1 min read

My thought for the day... Someone says "I have an angel watching over me" and they are referring to a loved one who has passed... Do they really understand the ramifications of what they are saying?

That means their loved one; parent, grandparent, etc, is able to see everything they have been doing since the moment that they passed.

So in this person's hopeful world their eventual reunion is going to be quite awkward: "You spent a lot of time ..."

Insert whatever you last did in private in place of the ellipses.

All this show did was set up for WM, however a lot of the show made little sense except in the context of "setting up for later."

WM Card Post Elimination Chamber:

Lashley vs. Lesnar. Again. This time no DQ and in a cage.

Rollins vs. Logan Paul. Because of course LP has to be in a high profile WM match.

Rhodes vs. Reigns

Ripley vs. Flair

Asuka vs. Belair

I would love to see Ripley and / or Asuka walk away with a title finally, but I don't see it happening.

That leaves a few matches undefined, but have to take place:

Men's Tag Team Titles, Women's Tag Team Titles, US Championship

That also leaves a few prominent wrestlers with no matches:

Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Bailey, Judgement Day, Becky Lynch, Rey Mysterio, Bray Wyatt, Drew McIntyre, New Day, Shayna Baszler, Alexa Bliss, Ronda Rousey

Theory vs. ?, most likely someone from the Elimination Chamber match, Priest is my bet. That would get Judgement Day out of the way over done "Edge Returns" for the 17th time.

First thing is, I think WWE has realized they have a problem with the consolidated titles with the Bloodline.

The Uso / Reigns break will result in the titles being broken. My thoughts, in the order of most likely:

Jey Uso and Sami Zayn vs. Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. Ends in no contest, titles split.

Or:

Kevin Owns and Sami Zayn vs. Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa Jey Uso and ? vs. Judgement Day or Drew McIntyre and Sheamus

Or:

Tag Titles Vacated, leading to two tourneys. This would help fill out the two days of WM matches.

I thought they would break the Main Titles off of Reigns, but it's possible he defends twice. Once on Saturday, once on Sunday. They did this before when there was one title (Hogan? Yokozuna? One of them I think).

Reigns vs. Rhodes on Sunday

Reigns vs. Kevin Owens on Saturday

Or, just:

Reigns vs. Rhodes on Sunday

They are going to continue the on going feuds for more repeat matches:

Becky Lynch vs. Bailey

Damage Control has to defend against someone, have no idea who.

New Day has to appear, probably in a non-wrestling way.

Rey Mysterio, Bray Wyatt, Shayna Baszler, Alexa Bliss, Ronda Rousey will not appear on the show. Except maybe a post match run in by Rousey.

My final predictions for WM are... card, match order, and outcome:

Saturday Night:

Women's Battle Royale.

Lashley vs. Lesnar. No DQ Cage Match. Lesnar wins.

Damage Control vs. Liv Morgan and ?. Damage Control retains.

Austin vs. Priest or Bronson Reed. Austin retains.

Asuka vs. Belair. Belair retains, but the match is a highlight.

Jey Uso and Sami Zayn vs. Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. Ends no contest. Titles split.

Sunday Night:

Men's Battle Royale.

NXT Championship Match, from the outcome of NXT Stand and Deliver on Saturday.

Becky Lynch vs. Bailey. In a Cage, Lynch wins.

Rollins vs. Logan Paul. Logan Paul wins.

Ripley vs. Flair. Ripley wins title. Run in by Rousey.

Rhodes vs. Reigns. Reigns retains. Titles stay joined.

The unknown factors are:

Kevin Owens, the Miz, and Riddle.
